a heartful collaboration

Picture
Great Heart Yoga was born from a desire to create an opportunity for a deeper yoga learning experience in Olympia. It's a collaboration between Annie Barrett and Whitney Lawless, who together have 30 years of combined teaching experience. Since 2013, Whitney and Annie have been offering in-depth yoga studies and teacher training programs for those interested in discovering their unique gifts and delving deep into the heart of yoga.

Annie Barrett is an educator with an Masters of Arts in Education, an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher and teacher trainer, a certified yoga health coach, a spouse and a mother of two amazing teen boys.  She loves cooking, hiking, live music, traveling, and speaking Spanish. Her family spends their time between the evergreen forest on the edge of Olympia, WA and the Andes mountains of Pisac, Peru.

"My life has been and continues to be a magnificent journey and I count myself and fortunate and blessed.  As someone who has walked the householder path of yoga for over twenty years, I am dedicated to offering yoga and wellness programs for vibrant and soulful living."

Annie has been practicing yoga for over twenty years and has been teaching since 2000.  Her teaching is alignment based and heart oriented, blending bio-mechanical principles with the life affirming wisdom and teachings of the greater yoga tradition.  Her teaching is informed by teachers from several traditions including Iyengar, Anusara and Tantra.

Yoga, for Annie, is the practice of stepping fully into one's body, mind and heart.  Via the tools of profound yogic practice, yoga teaches us to align with our core essence so that life can be lived more fully from a stabilized condition of well-being and expansive freedom.  Annie looks forward to sharing this journey with you!

Whitney Lawless, E-RYT-500, has been studying and practicing yoga since 1995. She began teaching in 2003 while in school for Massage Therapy. She is a mother of two young boys, a sometimes circus performer, and quilt maker.

The capacity of the human body to experience trauma, sustain injury and continue to seek intentional movement practices inspires Whitney's inquiry into the nature of hatha yoga. To be at home in our bodies while still living in this world,
connected to self-wisdom, and vitality is a daily practice that she brings to her classes. Her teaching also reflects her love for anatomy and biomechanics in asana. Personal practice and influence of her teachers, Denise Benitez, Darren Rhodes and Christina Sell, has equipped Whitney with a solid foundation in asana and set of tools to invite the ancient wisdom of yoga into this modern world.

Whitney is deeply committed to awakening awareness through the practice of yoga. Her goal is to support her students
in uncovering their unique gifts and nurture their ability to live a more embodied and fulfilling life. She is excited to share this conversation with all who are interested.
